It’s finally here: Larian Studios has now released the last significant update for Baldur’s Gate 3. While future patches may still address small bugs, this particular release marks the end of introducing fresh content. As such, you can expect no additional plot lines, Origin characters, or companions moving forward. Thankfully, there remains an abundance of material and narratives within Baldur’s Gate 3 yet to explore. Consequently, silence from Larian Studios seems imminent—expect little news about their upcoming projects until they’re prepared to unveil them officially.
To mark the launch of Patch 8, Baldur’s Gate 3 collaborated with Spud Gun Studios for an additional animated short. The video includes a notable cameo from Swen Vincke, the founder and CEO of Larian Studios, sporting his recognizable metal armor.
Regarding Patch 8, the release notes are quite extensive and can be viewed in full below. Key updates encompass the introduction of cross-play functionality, a photography mode, and perhaps most thrillingly, twelve brand-new subclasses—one for every playable character class. These additions introduce fresh skills, animations, visual effects, exclusive summonings, potent cantrips, and voice-acted dialogues specifically for the Oathbreaker Knight variant accessible to players embodying an Oath of the Crown Paladin subclass. This expansion promises innovative approaches to navigating Baldur’s Gate 3. Below is the complete roster of newly introduced subclasses:
- Route of the Colossal Berserker
- College of Glamour Bard
- Death Domain Cleric
- Circle of Stars Druid
- Arcane Archer Fighter
- Style of the Intoxicated Kung Fu Monk
- Crown Paladin Oath
- Swarmkeeper Ranger
- Swashbuckler Rogue
- Shadow Magic Sorcerer
- Hexblade Warlock
- Bladesinging Wizard
Despite not being a huge fan of CRPGs myself, Baldur’s Gate 3 managed to win me over with its immersive storytelling. In my review, I described the game as a deep, sprawling, and complex RPG that’s as captivating as it is memorable. It’s also included in my list of the best games I’ve ever played.
