Waco, Texas (KWTX) — This summer, both Baylor University and McLennan County Community College will introduce two new cybersecurity courses.
The sessions will take place at the MCC facility and Baylor’s cybersecurity simulation center.
Dr. Jeremy McCormick, a professor of Computer Information Systems at MCC, stated that the institutions are adequately prepared to tackle the technology skill shortage in Texas.
"Being centrally located makes us an excellent hub for the area, where both educational institutions and industries can collaborate to build momentum and address these cybersecurity job openings," stated Dr. McCormick.
He mentioned that the courses will differ from others that are similarly provided.
“With this approach, I believe they will receive a great deal of individualized attention,” Dr. McCormick stated. “Upon entering, they should anticipate having a customized experience.”
He mentioned that these new courses would be available at non-traditional times, enabling individuals with daytime work commitments to sign up nonetheless.
"Currently, we're actively engaging with the community to reach out to anyone who has an interest in cybersecurity. Our aim is to encourage such individuals to undergo training in this field so that we can address the vacant positions," explained Dr. McCormick.
He believes this will broaden the chances for additional individuals to enter the cybersecurity sector.
