Emily Ratajkowski Calls Out Blue Origin Space Trip: "Not Worth Celebrating"

Supermodel Emily Ratajkowski has joined others critiquing the Blue Origin all-female flight to space.

On April 14, Jeff Bezos’s fiancee, Lauren Sanchez, pop star Katy Perry Broadcaster Gayle King, NASA aerospace specialist Aisha Bowe, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn wrapped up an 11-minute journey into space.

Nevertheless, various responses have followed the journey’s conclusion, with some questioning its importance.

Emily Ratajkowski Criticizes Blue Origin Space Trip

Ratajkowski quickly spoke out against the Blue Origin all-female space mission.

On Monday, she shared her reaction to the flight through a video posted on TikTok. "This morning’s space mission, this is some serious stuff. It's completely absurd," she started.

In the subsequent segment of the video, Ratajkowski turned her attention to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. She stated, "It’s ironic when someone claims they care deeply about our planet—Mother Earth—and yet climbs aboard a spacecraft crafted and financed by an organization singularly responsible for harming the environment."

She remarked, "Consider the condition of our planet and reflect on all the resources devoted to sending those women to space. Was it worth it? Was it really necessary? What was the rationale behind such marketing efforts?"

The model concluded, "Then to attempt making it seem like... I am revolted. Honestly, I am disgusted."

Emily Ratajkowski Claims Space Missions Aren't Advancement

On Tuesday, Ratajkowski posted an additional clip on TikTok where she expanded upon her criticism of the exclusively female space journey.

She began "Alright, I’m returning now with additional thoughts," he continued, saying, "I believe that this space mission seems perplexing to many individuals because witnessing women and people of color participating in fields such as science and politics—areas where they haven’t traditionally been represented—visually conveys what truly appears to be advancement.”

The 33-year-old went on to deliver further harsh criticisms directed at Bezos. She stated, "However, the reality is that having a man who amassed his wealth solely through exploitation and greed, becoming part of the top 1%, choosing to take his fiancé along with some other notable women on a space tourism trip does not represent advancement."

Ratajkowski suggested that this space mission highlights that we are indeed living under an oligarchy, wherein only a select few are focused on venturing into space as a way to secure a fresh start, whereas the majority of the populace, including most individuals on Earth, are preoccupied with more immediate concerns like affording rent or ensuring their children have meals.

She remarked, "'Privilege is not an accomplishment,' as stated by another creator I came across," continuing to assert that "taking advantage of others isn’t considered achieving anything significant either. Furthermore, using the advantages obtained through exploiting people and Earth’s resources—such as traveling into space for just 11 minutes—is definitely not praiseworthy."

Ratajkowski likened the space mission to scenes from the "Hunger Games" film, observing, "'This situation feels just like 'The Hunger Games,' doesn’t it?' She added, 'I decided to make an additional video because I believe we currently live in a time when people must learn how to recognize genuine advancements. The event from yesterday did not reflect anything of such nature.'"

Audience Responds to Emily Ratajkowski's Clips

Ratajkowski garnered immense backing from her followers who left comments on her video uploads.

Someone who left feedback on her initial video slammed Katy Perry , remarking, "It’s ironic that Katy Perry believes her actions represent the pinnacle of feminism. The truth is, nobody has advanced the cause of feminism as much as she did by boarding that vessel."

Someone else chimed in, saying, "It seemed as though they viewed it as a victory for feminism. The funds utilized to dispatch them into space might have been better spent aiding women in numerous aspects."

A viewer who responded to Ratajkowski's second video remarked, "The funds allocated for Katy Perry’s space expedition might have been more effectively utilized to support STEM education, public health initiatives, or environmental programs that generate enduring impacts."

Someone else chimed in praising Ratajkowski, stating, "Nah, I'm more into Emrata because she presents very strong arguments and utilizes her massive following for positive change."

Olivia Munn's Reprimand of Blue Origin's Space Expedition

Emily Ratajkowski isn't the sole prominent figure to criticize the Blue Origin space journey publicly.

Prior to the women starting their journey on Monday, actress Olivia Munn shared her thoughts on the contentious expedition while co-hosting the April 3 episode of "Today With Jenna and Friends."

She said per Page Six What are they up to? I realize this might not be considered the trendy opinion. However, there are numerous critical issues at stake globally today.

Munn subsequently added, "What will you all be doing in space? What exactly is your activity up there?"

She similarly raised concerns over the publicity surrounding the all-female space mission prior to voicing her dissatisfaction with its expense. She remarked, “This might sound annoying, but seriously, spending so much on a trip to space seems outrageous when many people struggle just to buy basic food items like eggs.”

Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez Stand Up for Their Space Flight

Experienced anchor Gayle King and Jeff Bezos's fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, addressed the backlash directed at their journey into space.

During a press conference after the expedition, they both addressed the public, with King stating that "those who criticize this don’t truly grasp the situation at hand."

She added We can each attest to the feedback we're receiving from young women and young girls regarding what this signifies.

Sanchez stated, "I become extremely enthusiastic about this. It would be great for them to visit Blue Origin and witness the countless team members who not only work here but also pour their passion and dedication into this spacecraft."

The individual, who is 55 years old, went on to say, "'They enjoy their job and they're passionate about the mission, which means a lot to them. Therefore, whenever we come across remarks like those, my response is simple: 'Believe me. Join me, and I will demonstrate what this truly entails—it’s quite an enlightening experience.'"
