Maine Middle School Joins Forces With Blue Origin for Rocket Launch Experiment

AUGUSTA (WGME) -- A Maine school successfully sent an all-women team into space on Monday.

Students from St. John's Catholic Middle School assisted Blue Origin in developing their most recent rocket launch experiment.

Students looked at multiple environmental variables during the rocket's launch.

This encompassed both the temperature and radiation conditions within the cabin.

On Monday, the students gathered to watch the launch in real time.

A science instructor at the institution mentions that the practical experience demonstrated to the students their own capabilities.

"Thus, these students are engaging in genuine scientific work, which is truly what I aim to introduce into my classroom. I want them to understand that even as middle schoolers, they have the potential to become scientists, design experiments, construct those experiments, and ultimately conduct their tests," explained teacher Karin Paqin.

The experiment created by students became reality thanks to Teachers in Space, a nonprofit organization that introduces space exploration into educational settings nationwide.
