Wichita Landfill Fire: Contained But Still Smoldering

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – According to firefighters, a major fire in northwestern Wichita has been brought under control but continues to burn as of early Wednesday morning. They advise motorists to be careful due to smoke rising over Kansas Highway 96.

The fire was reported at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the CDR Landfill located at 4250 West 37th Street North.

The firefighters remained at the blaze throughout the night, continuously spraying water on it. Nevertheless, due to the restricted availability of water in the vicinity, authorities have opted to allow the fire to exhaust itself naturally.

Fire crews will stay at the fire to make sure the flames do not spread in the windy weather.

The origin of the blaze is currently being looked into.
